US Open 2013 Tennis Grand Slam Full Tournament Analysis, Preview and Prediction:

The U.S. Open is the final Grand Slam event of the 2013 season, and there is no question that the world's best players want to end the year on a high note. This isn't just a huge tournament for the players, though; it is also the ideal viewing event for tennis fans everywhere. Although it may not measure up to Wimbledon in terms of pageantry, fans wait all year for the U.S. Open to come to pass. There's nothing quite like watching tennis under the lights, and the U.S. Open provides that atmosphere consistently. The fans absolutely love it, and the players seem to relish it as well. The players have been preparing for the U.S. Open with a bevy of hard-court tournaments over the past several weeks, so the competition promises to be both fierce and entertaining. Here is a complete guide for when and how to watch every single second of the action in the Big Apple.

Top Contenders to Watch Both Men's and Women's Singles:

Novak Djokovic (As Tennis Rankings 1)

Given his form this season you would be a fool to write him out of contention in any competition - most of all on a hard court. He is the top seed at Flushing Meadows and will be out to avenge defeat in last year's final. There is no chance of a repeat of that final however as, providing they both reach the latter stages of the tournament, Djokovic would meet Murray in the semi-finals. It will be tough going to get there, with a potential quarter-final match up with Juan Martin del Potro. But just look at the man's record: he has reached the semis at flushing Meadows for the last six years (reaching four finals) and has been in three of the last four grand slam finals.

Rafael Nadal (As Tennis Rankings 2)

It is unfortunate that despite such an impressive return from seven months out injured, one of the most memorable moments of Nadal’s season was being ousted by Steve Darcis in the first round at Wimbledon. That said, the undisputed king of clay, who took out French Open title number eight this year, is on track to claim the same accolade on the hard courts.  He goes into Flushing Meadows with back-to-back trophy wins in Montreal and Cincinnati and is rapidly approaching the summit of the rankings having climbed from fifth to second since his return. His biggest challenge will come in the form of Djokovic or Murray, but there is no doubting the fact that the Spaniard is in the kind of form one needs to reach a grand slam final. On paper the tournament is not his best – of his 12 grand slam titles he has won in NYC just once – but it is a case of 'write him off at your peril'.

Andy Murray (As Tennis Rankings 3)

Murray comes in as defending champion and what a 12 months it has been for the world number three. After getting his hands on his first grand slam title at Flushing Meadows last year, he reached the Australian Open final (beaten by Djokovic) at the start of 2013; was forced to skip the French through injury before storming into the history books after clinching Britain's first Wimbledon title in 77 years. Besides his grand slam success, there have been some ups and downs but after a good break post SW19, his scintillating form on hard courts makes him a definite favourite.

Roger Federer No 7 Is Not Everything Finished

Roger Federer appears to be approaching the twilight of his tennis career, but despite being No. 7 in the ATP rankings, the five-time U.S. Open champion is set up to bounce back in the year's final Grand Slam event. While it's perhaps too bold to say that Federer will win the title in New York City, the draw sets up a scenario in which he could at least be on the brink of winning his 17th major tournament by advancing to the final. Arguing for Federer with conviction is difficult, because it seems that all signs are pointing to the 32-year-old legend finally falling off after staggering consistency prior to the 2013 season. After winning at least four singles titles in each of his previous six campaigns, Federer has only taken home the hardware at one event this year. He's also only made one of the past nine Grand Slam finals, though that did result in a victory at Wimbledon last year.

Can Serena Williams Bounce Back?

Most tennis fans probably agree that Serena Williams is far and away the best female tennis player on the planet, but the 2013 season hasn't exactly been a perfect one for her. Injuries hampered her early on and resulted in Sloane Stephens eliminating her in the Australian Open quarterfinals. Serena was able to round back into form, winning the French Open in convincing fashion, but she was met with major disappointment at Wimbledon when Sabine Lisicki took her out in the fourth round. That loss seemed to fuel Williams, as she subsequently won the next two tournaments in which she competed. But she enters the U.S. Open on a sour note. Serena faced Victoria Azarenka in the Western & Southern Open last week, and while she was able to jump out to a 1-0 lead in terms of sets, Azarenka stormed back to win the title.

Victoria Azarenka May Not Let Serena To Take That:

You probably could not hope for any better preparation going into a grand slam than beating Serena Williams in a final to claim your 17th career title. Such is Azarenka's position ahead of Flushing Meadows, the Belarusian can, and should, be feeling like anything is possible in NYC. Azarenka started the year by defending her Australian Open title which she followed with the same feat in Qatar. The following period of the season was marred by an ankle injury which she only looked to have fully recovered from by the time the French Open came around.  The world number two reached the final four at Roland Garros and was forced to withdraw in the second round of Wimbledon – a retirement which ended her run of four consecutive grand slam semi-finals.
